Photography FAQ

Q. Do I need my own chemicals?
A. No. Chemicals are provided with your darkroom access.
Q. Do I need to purchase my own paper and film?
A. Yes. Paper and film is not included with your studio access.
Q. What if the chemistry runs out?
A. If a chemical has run out, please email saadarkman and we will do our best to remedy the issue as soon as possible.
Q. The darkroom flooded! The fixer spilled! The hot/cold water is not working! The Fotar blew a fuse! What do I do?
A. Email saadarkman immediately! We'll contact facilities or EHS and make sure the problem gets solved promptly.
Q. May I check out a camera?
A. Yes. Talk to your instructor or email saadarkman to schedule a pickup date.
Q. How long can I have a camera checked out?
A. It depends on the term and type of camera. During IAP, we ask that you not keep cameras for more than three days, as the term is short. During the other terms you may check out the camera for up to three weeks before you must re-check it out. If you've had a camera out for a long time, we may contact you if someone else really wants to use it.
Large and medium format cameras generally shouldn't be kept for more than three or four days, and maybe less if there is a class going on that centers around the use of these cameras.
Q. What kind of cameras do you have?
A. We have several 35mm SLRs (Canon, Nikon, and Vivitar), a Mamiya RZ67, a Hasselblad 500 c/m, two 4x5s and one 8x10.
Q. How big can I print?
A. Big. We have an 8x10 enlarger.
