The Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in the Visual Arts
The MIT Student Art Association and the Council for the Arts at MIT invites all registered MIT students to submit works of art to the Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Visual Arts Competition.

Monday, April 5, 12 - 5 PM - Dropoff works at Student Art Association (SAA)
Tuesday, April 6, 11 AM - 2 PM - Schnitzer Committee Meeting at W20-307
Wednesday, April 7, 12 - 5 PM - Pickup works at SAA
Tuesday, April 27, 3:30 PM at Wiesner Gallery - Installation Meeting with winners; go over their contract
Thursday, May 6 - deadline for poster design from first prize winner, submit to Susan Cohen and Magda Fernandez
Thursday, May 6 - Magda will send wall plaque to be engraved
Thursday, May 6 - Magda will remind winners to send their installation plans (including music and food) by May 7 deadline to Sam Magee (cc Susan Cohen and Magda Fernandez)
Friday, May 7 - deadline for winners to submit detailed installation schedules and choice of food and live music
Tuesday, May 11 - Magda will order food for reception
Saturday, May 22 - Monday, May 24 - Installation period, coordinated by Sam Magee
Tuesday, May 25, 2009, 4 - 6 PM - Opening Reception
Tuesday, June 29 - Exhibition closes

Application Process
On ___, artists will submit completed application form and the following material to the Student Art Association:
- One of the following:
- 3 pieces that well represent your entire body of work
- one piece of original work and visual representations of other originals (i.e. slides)
- A written statement concerting the artist's intent as it pertains to his or her works and art in general
Judging
On April 6th, a panel from the Student Art Association, Council for the Arts at MIT, and the MIT visual arts community will judge the artist’s overall artistic talents and creative concept.
Winners will be notified the week of April 20th.
Art work will be available for pick up in the SAA from noon-5pm on April 7th.
Prizes and Exhibition
Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place in the competition. Honorable mentions may also be awarded. Winners must be willing and able to display their work in the Wiesner Student Art Gallery in the spring.
The show will hang in the gallery during Commencement, during June 2009.
There will be an opening reception at the gallery for the MIT community.

- Second Prize: $2500
- Third Prize: $2000
