Rules & Expectations
The MIT SAA is open to the MIT community with preference in the following order:
MIT students, MIT Alumni, MIT employees, Spouses of MIT students and employees, SAA instructors.
Enrollment in classes must be completed through the web site at saa.mit.edu.A valid MIT id is needed.
All payment, Tech cash, Credit Card and check is due before the beginning of classes.
Refunds will only be available through the first week of each SAA term.
class attendance:
Although attendance is not mandatory, it is recommended that you come to classes. Refunds will not be provided due to absences. If an instructor is unable to make it to class, they will email both the class and the coordinator as soon as they know. Instructor absences should only be due to sickness or inclement weather. Substitutes can be arranged if there is enough notice.
studio use:
The studio is open 24 hours
a day for the entire 12 week term. SAA members are welcome to use the studios
independently in which they are enrolled at anytime except during
scheduled class times. Only the studio you are registered in is
available to you. No SAA member should admit people who do not have
access. Doing so will negate their membership. Before you come in to work, please check the studio hours to make sure you don't interrupt a class.
Instructors are offered studio use for 30 minutes prior to their
scheduled class and outside those hours on a limited basis for class
preparation only. The studios are not intended for instructors’ private
use.
Each
member and instructor agrees to abide by the rules and guidelines of
each studio which are posted both in the studios and on the website. If
additional use is desired, a "reasonable" contract can be negotiated
between the coordinator and instructor.
Access is limited to the Coordinator, the Studio Managers and Student
Staff only during the weeks between each term with no exception.
member / instructor responsibilities:
Each SAA Member and Instructor agrees upon enrollment and or hiring, to leave the studio in the same or better condition than when they started. Understanding that the studios and equipment will degrade over time, additional efforts are needed at the conclusion of each term to maintain our high facility quality. Studio clean-ups are offered at the close of each term and participation in those clean-ups will greatly influence the standing and future involvement with the SAA.
Each student and instructor will abide by the high level of professionalism that MIT demands of its community members. A thorough curriculum and instructor participation is imperative as is thoughtful and eager student engagement.
